Enrichment Wednesdays
New for the 2024/2025 season of learning!
Both parents and our learners alike have asked for more and as our learners grow, we look to grow with them and meet them where they need to be met. Now in our 3rd year of offering learning experiences and enrichment, you can expect your learners to be exposed to a variety of topics with monthly themes that will plant seeds on topics they will likely encounter later in the their learning journey, but that will challenge and excite them, fostering a love of learning. We are a community and believe that having mixed learning levels offers an opportunity for learning in itself. In fact, we subscribe to the ideology that we have radically altered our own evolved species behavior by artificially segregating children into same age peer groups. However, creating a developmentally and size appropriate environment for learning is also an ideology that is at our core.
Taking all three of these ideologies into consideration, we will be offering 2 groups for both learning experiences and enrichment. We will have a '"primary" and "secondary" level each week and have expanded our teaching staff to meet our growing needs.
Our primary learners are those whose time at ITAV will be their first time learning in an environment away from their parents, are likely aged between 5 & 6, are very early in their "structure" learning and are just being introduced to reading and writing.
Our secondary learners are those whose time at ITAV is NOT their first time learning in an environment away from their parents, are likely aged between 6/7 & 10, and are actively working towards or are already comfortable with reading and writing.
Both groups will participate in the same weekly topics as seen below, but the experiences will be tailored for their level and taught by 2 different teachers. Both groups will be together during snack, free play and lunch times. Levels will alternate weeks with Art, Yoga & Mediation Enrichment and Let's Get Musical. For example, when our primary level has Art, Yoga & Mediation Enrichment, our secondary level will have Let's Get Musical.
As per last year, if your learner is interested in joining both experiences on Wednesdays, there is an option to stay from 12:00pm to 1:00pm and enjoy lunch and some "down time" as a class - think recess outside, board games, FUN, or they can simply join for the learning experiences only from 10-noon and be picked up at noon. A full day (10-2pm) is still $40 and a half day (10-12pm) is still $20. - A 15% sibling discount is offered.
You are welcome to commit for the full year for Wednesdays which would guarantee your learner a spot, or you can drop in week to week, month to month. Last year we did fill up each week, so if you are interested, please sign up promptly - We look forward to having your learner(s) join us!
Our Let's Get Musical enrichment is taught by Ms. Emma who has been a music educator for over 10 years in both New Jersey and Maryland. She received her Bachelors of Music from Moravian University and her Masters in Educational Leadership from Centenary University. Her primary instrument is voice and specializes in elementary general and vocal music, as well as elementary and secondary Theater. Emma lives in Mount Bethel with her husband and two young children.
Our Art, Yoga and Meditation enrichment is being offered as a collaboration with Spark, a New York City established enrichment program that is centered around art as a way for children to express themselves. Through small class sizes, there is opportunity for personalized attention. Taught by its Founder, Sebastian Alappat, students will start with a foundation of art to build rapport and then introduce the practice of yoga and meditation. This experience exposes students to different mediums, techniques and art history while cultivating mindfulness, confidence and self expression!
