The Team Behind It Takes a Village

We are a homeschool community seeking to supplement your home study curriculum. Our biggest strength is adaptability. Your children are learning, and so are we. We encourage families to provide feedback on areas of improvement and expansion.

ITAV will focus on time spent outdoors in our expansive green space. Our teacher(s) will instruct students in core competencies including Reading, Language Arts, and Math, plus we’ll introduce age-appropriate lessons in Science and Nature Studies through visitors and workshops. Lesson plans will be part of a transparent curriculum that’s published ahead of time online.

We are excited to partner with you and support your family on your homeschooling journey.

Deanna Ruzanski
Director

Deanna Ruzanski is a mom of two with a passion for homeschooling. During the pandemic, Deanna organized a small preschool class in her home, which helped inspire her to create ITAV.

As a full-time working professional, Deanna understands the importance of flexibility and adaptability for the education experience. She is committed to creating a safe and fun learning environment where children are encouraged to tap into their potential through a combination of outdoor exploration and traditional study.

Amy Lookenbill
Teacher and Curriculum Director

"Ms. Amy" is an PA certified educator with 20 years of experience. She has an undergraduate degree in elementary education and a masters in reading and a reading specialist certification.

Ms. Amy has experience teaching children from preschool up to fifth grade, plus spent time as an adjunct professor instructing teachers. She has experience in a variety of educational settings including public school, preschool, homeschooling, and most recently at a Waldorf charter school.

Her experience homeschooling her three boys in the primary grades taught her about the beauty of an authentic, customized, flexible, learning experience. She wished she had had the option of placing them in  a classroom setting that embraced their values, to balance their life experiences for a completely well rounded education.  This inspired her to team up with Deanna and enhance the homeschool experience with the support and expertise of a classroom teacher.  She wants to share her passion for teaching and love of learning by working with families on a smaller scale.
